The Courage to Say It: First Love

Dark brown eyes, soft curly afro…,
He was my man, I dare not let go.
Killer smile tall, fine, muscles everywhere –
The women looked hard, I didn’t care.
He was man, and I loved him so.
Warm, gently caring for me as though
we’d live together for life –
his love was toward making me
His wife.

He was my man, yet I let him go.
You never get over your first love,
you know.
I can still see his face, hear him call my name.
I wonder if it ever happens to him
the same.

Dark brown eyes, soft curly afro.
He was my man, but I dared to let go.
I walked away into another life
and chose to become
someone else’s life

He was my man – I loved him so.
And you never get over
your first love, you know.
